A most unusual lighthouse at Mouille Point in Cape Town, remains a landmark as the waterfront has changed over the years. From a photograph I took when we visited the Cape in 2018.

Lighthouse, rocks & schooner
A rapid watercolour painting in a sketch book done one morning while waiting on the phone for a technical service technician. I timed it. This took me 25 minutes, it turned out to be time well spent.

Eastern Point Light Sketch
Often visited, this view from out on the stone breakwater, gives a good impression of its layout.
This was also a quick sketch, to decide whether a more detailed painting is necessary. Maybe.

Glostah Rocks after the Blizzard
I lived two miles up the road. During one winter we had a couple of big turbulent storms. On this day the resulting snow drifts, piles of frozen spume and weirdly snow drifts shaped by the receding tide were wonderful. This scene was a must-paint!

Spume & drifts after the blizzard
... As was this. The drifts, and the weirdly shaped dunes, along with the beautiful reflected colour off the snowdrifts. You don't see this kind of thing every day!

Walkway to Good Harbor Beach
Another of Gloucester's beaches, this one is very popular during summertime. But when tourist season is over, the relative desolation is beautiful. The walkway/bridge suffered from the effects of the occasional strong tides. Shortly after this was painted it was damaged and a year would pass before it could be used again.

Wingaersheek Rocks
On Wingaersheek beach is a rock formation that seems to reshape the dunes with every tide. The sand and dunes shift frequently. This one is not for sale, as my sweetheart (who eventually became my wife) got first dibs. It was one of my earliest paintings. I had not realized how cool those clouds turned out!

A dip in the ocean
Summer again. Long walks on Coffin Beach. Appreciating the tides, and wonderful summer colors. The occasional sailboat relieving the monotony of the flat horizon. Beautiful.

Hot summer view
Wingaersheek Beach houses overlooking the northern Cape Ann peninsula. The painting began during an annual summer painting party in Wingaersheek, when I was a member of Thursday Painters, a group who usually gathered in a church loft during winters in Watertown, Massachusetts.

The Real Skater
"Skaters" from my Skating Pond Series: This one depicts a young lady out in the fresh air, showing what she can do well... really skate! During my days at the Boston Skating Club being a good attentive dad, I observed many talented lads and ladies of all ages skating beautifully.

Novice: Skating Pond
Another imagined scene... having hung out at skating rinks for many years when my son Jesse Aron Green was a competitive figure skater, I realized that drawing skaters was not difficult... in this scene, a mother teaches her son to skate, while old-timers glide around the pond in the background.

Weekend Cleanup Crew
This winter scene of a Cape Ann pond, was totally imagined. I was musing about the type of house one typically sees in various locations around New England, and once that was done I decided to put in a couple erstwhile ice-hockey players. As a parent of a skater, I've had a lot of time to observe such scenes.

Tableview from beyond Bloubergstrand
Northward along the coast from Cape Town, the beautiful views of Table Mountain vary subtly. Here with few signs of settlement, is a beach that is ever-changed by the tide, and a view that alters with the time of day. It is invariably beautiful.

Return of the Fishing Fleet
This one came from my imagination. Finding an unused, long scrap of paper, I decided to try various colour combinations that evolved into this scene of a dawn I might have slept through. Gloucester is know as a fishing port ... its fleet sallying forth every day out to the Banks to bring in the daily catch.

A visit to the South West in December revealed a bleak place with little greenery to see, although this bare tree outside our accomodations was remarkable on a sunny morning with a town and mountain landscape clearly defined in the distance.

The cambridge side of the Charles river near my home on the other side is a place we often walk during warm weather. Memorial Drive, with its stately trees and its homes, apartment blocks and university buildings make for a very interesting amble.
